Kia Motors India (KMI), the newest passenger vehicle manufacturer in India, today inaugurated a training facility, spread across 5 acres at its upcoming Anantpur plant in Andhra Pradesh. The company also introduced a Basic Technical Course (BTC) in automobiles for skill development.

The training course, which is designed to skill people for entry level shopfloor operations, is in collaboration with the Andhra Pradesh State Skill Development Corporation (APSSDC).

As a part of the course, various batches of trainees will simultaneously undergo a five-day BTC training for which Kia has designed 20 workstations to provide the basic technical skills.

These workstations, which include hand-tool identification, curved surface sealant and wheel installation amongst others, have been designed keeping in view various aspects of the production line and department-specific requirements such as assembly, paint, body shop and press shop among others. The course will test trainees on theory and practical training.

According to Kia Motors India, the annual training capacity for BTC is around 2,000 members. The first training began on June 20, 2018. The facility also houses an extensive auditorium that can seat 400 people, which will be used for training purposes.

Commenting on the training course, Kookhyun Shim, managing director and CEO, Kia Motors India, said, “The auto industry is evolving at a fast pace and to match the advanced technology, we need to constantly upgrade the skills of our manpower by providing them a platform that offers training modules. This training centre will not only provide the relevant knowledge but also empower them to be skilled technicians who can then apply for jobs at Kia Motors and our vendor companies."

We, at Kia Motors India, are happy to share that by the end of 2018, more than 2,000 youth will be trained and a large number of them will be working for us in the future as well. We have received more than 4,000 applications for 600 vacancies to begin with.”
